U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that it is “too late” for diplomatic negotiations with Iran even as military operations involving U.S. and Israeli forces continue to strike Tehran and other targets across the Islamic Republic. Trump’s statement — delivered in a social media post — came amid the fourth day of intensified conflict, with ongoing airstrikes and retaliation shaping a rapidly deteriorating regional crisis.
According to Trump, Iran’s air defence systems, air force, navy and senior leadership have been so severely degraded that opportunities for meaningful talks have effectively closed. “They want to talk. I said ‘Too Late!’” he wrote, signalling a hardening U.S. stance even as Tehran reportedly seeks diplomatic engagement to halt the violence.
The conflict — which has seen extensive strikes on Iranian military infrastructure — has triggered counter-attacks across the Middle East, with Iranian drones and missiles targeting U.S. diplomatic missions and allied bases. Officials in the region are warning of further escalation as retaliatory operations continue.
Iran’s UN envoy has said Tehran has not formally contacted Washington about peace talks, emphasizing that ongoing hostilities have precluded effective negotiation channels. This comes as international leaders repeatedly urge restraint and call for renewed diplomatic efforts to avert a wider conflagration.
The broader crisis has had far-reaching consequences beyond the battlefield, disrupting airspace across the Gulf, prompting evacuation advisories and driving up global energy prices. With diplomacy sidelined and military action underway, analysts warn that the situation risks deepening into a larger regional conflict with significant humanitarian, strategic, and economic impacts.
