The top U.S. and Israeli military leaders held closed-door talks at the Pentagon on Friday as tensions with Iran continue to escalate, two U.S. officials told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The meeting brought together U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dan Caine and Israeli Armed Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. Officials declined to provide details of the discussions, which had not been previously reported.
The talks come as Washington has stepped up its military posture in the Middle East, increasing naval deployments and reinforcing air defences following repeated warnings to Iran from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has sought to pressure Tehran back to the negotiating table.
Iran’s leadership warned on Sunday that any U.S. attack could spark a wider regional conflict, further heightening concerns of escalation.
Following his Washington visit, Zamir met Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, according to Katz’s office. The meeting focused on developments across the region and Israel’s military “operational readiness for any possible scenario.”
The high-level engagement underscores close U.S.-Israeli coordination at a time of growing uncertainty over Iran’s next moves and the risk of a broader confrontation in the Middle East.
