Police in Toronto are investigating reports that shots were fired near the United States Consulate General in Toronto early Tuesday morning, raising security concerns amid heightened global tensions.
According to the Toronto Police Service, officers received a report of gunfire shortly before 5:30 am local time.
Investigators later confirmed that evidence of a firearm discharge was found at the scene, although no injuries have been reported and no suspects have been identified so far.
Streets sealed as investigation begins
Authorities closed several streets around the consulate while officers searched the area and collected evidence.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the shots were directly aimed at the diplomatic facility or fired nearby.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Rising security concerns
The incident comes as tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran and the United States continue to reverberate globally.
Over the past week, several locations in Toronto have reported gunfire incidents. Police say three Jewish synagogues in the city have been struck by bullets, while a boxing gym owned by an Iranian Canadian critic of the Iranian government was also targeted.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the latest incident near the US consulate is connected to those attacks.
Similar incident under investigation in Norway
The Toronto investigation follows another security incident in Europe. Police in Oslo are investigating an explosion outside the Embassy of the United States in Oslo that occurred on Sunday.
The blast caused minor damage to the building, but no injuries were reported.
Norwegian authorities believe the explosion may have been caused by an improvised device and are searching for a suspect seen near the embassy.
Possible geopolitical backdrop
Officials in both countries are examining whether the incidents could be linked to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The United States Department of State is also monitoring the situation as concerns grow over potential attacks targeting American or Jewish institutions overseas.
