Russia launched a rare daytime drone barrage against Ukraine, marking an unusual shift in tactics as Moscow intensifies aerial pressure on key cities and infrastructure targets amid ongoing fighting.
Ukrainian officials said multiple attack drones were detected during daylight hours across several regions, including areas near the capital Kyiv and strategic energy facilities. Air defense units were activated quickly, intercepting many of the incoming drones, though some damage to infrastructure was reported.
Military analysts noted that Russian forces typically conduct large-scale drone attacks at night to complicate detection and increase psychological impact. The decision to strike during daylight hours suggests either increased operational confidence or an attempt to overwhelm Ukrainian air-defense systems through continuous pressure across different time windows.
Regional authorities confirmed emergency crews were deployed to assess damage following explosions in several districts. While casualty figures remain limited, officials warned residents to remain alert as further attacks could follow.
Ukraine’s air force said Iranian-designed Shahed-type drones were among those used in the barrage. These long-range unmanned aerial vehicles have become a central component of Russia’s strike strategy, frequently targeting energy networks, logistics hubs, and urban infrastructure.
The daytime assault comes as Ukraine continues to strengthen its air-defense capabilities with support from Western partners. Officials say interception rates remain high, but repeated waves of drone attacks continue to strain defensive resources and emergency-response systems.
Ukrainian leaders condemned the strikes as an attempt to disrupt civilian life and critical services, particularly ahead of seasonal infrastructure demands. Meanwhile, international observers warned that the evolving timing and frequency of drone attacks could signal a broader adjustment in Russia’s aerial campaign strategy.
Security officials say monitoring continues across multiple regions as Ukraine prepares for the possibility of additional strikes in the coming days.
