Israel and Iran exchanged a new wave of strikes as the conflict rapidly escalated across the Middle East, while the United States confirmed its first military casualties since the confrontation began.
According to U.S. Central Command, three American service members were killed and five others seriously wounded during ongoing military operations linked to the conflict. The deaths mark the first confirmed American fatalities since joint operations and retaliatory attacks intensified in the region.
Israel said it carried out additional strikes on targets inside Iran, including military infrastructure and missile facilities, vowing operations would continue in the coming days. Iranian authorities responded with missile and drone attacks aimed at Israeli territory and U.S.-linked assets across the region, widening fears of a broader regional war.
Explosions were reported in multiple areas as air-defence systems intercepted incoming projectiles, while emergency services treated casualties following impacts in populated areas. Regional governments placed security forces on high alert and warned citizens to follow official safety guidance.
The escalation follows the earlier killing of Iranโs Supreme Leader during major strikes, an event that triggered retaliatory operations and intensified military exchanges.
Global leaders have called for restraint, warning the confrontation risks drawing additional countries into direct conflict and threatening international shipping and energy markets. The United Nations urged immediate de-escalation to prevent a wider war across the Middle East.
Military analysts say both sides appear prepared for sustained operations, suggesting the confrontation could continue for days or weeks unless diplomatic channels reopen.
The situation remains fluid, with further strikes expected as each side signals readiness to respond to additional attacks.
