Saturday Night Live delivered a surprise political punch this weekend with the return of Mike Myers, who reprised his role as Elon Musk in a satirical cold open set at a fictional Trump Awards Show.
The sketch opened with President Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, hosting “The Trumps,” an awards ceremony honoring “the best in being or succumbing to President Donald Trump.” Trump welcomed Musk to the stage as a “close ex-friend,” presenting him with a tongue-in-cheek lifetime achievement award for comedy, “even though he might not always intend it.”
Myers’ Musk oscillated between manic enthusiasm and robotic detachment, deadpanning to the audience, “I feel so emotionless to be here.” Leaning into Musk’s public persona, he added, “If anyone knows humor, it’s me. No tariffs on humor!”
The sketch also aimed at Trump’s appetite for accolades. Trump joked that after receiving a Nobel Prize from “that lady, whose name I already forgot,” he needed “more awards” and “more distractions,” a reference to recent controversies involving ICE.
Vice President J.D. Vance, portrayed by Jeremy Culhane, presented Trump with an award for the best picture of himself, only to be repeatedly mocked. Vance later returned alongside Kristi Noem (Ashley Padilla) as nominees for best kiss, both cited for kissing “Trump’s ass.” Though Noem won the category, Trump ultimately seized the trophy anyway, keeping the spotlight squarely on himself.
The cold open marked Myers’ latest high-profile cameo on SNL, blending sharp political satire with nostalgia as the veteran comedian returned to the spotlight. The episode continued the show’s tradition of skewering power, ego, and political spectacle, with Myers’ Musk proving one of the night’s most talked-about moments.
