Tech billionaire Elon Musk has filed a defamation lawsuit against television host Joy Behar and the daytime talk show The View, seeking $70 million in damages, according to reports circulating in U.S. media and legal circles.

The lawsuit alleges that comments made on The View during recent broadcasts were false, misleading, and damaging to Musk’s personal reputation and business interests. Musk’s legal team claims the remarks crossed the line from opinion into defamatory statements presented as fact, leading to reputational harm and financial losses.
In the filing, Musk argues that the program’s wide audience amplified the impact of the statements, which he says fueled online harassment and negatively affected public perception of his companies and leadership. The suit reportedly names the show’s producers and parent network as co-defendants, citing editorial responsibility for the content aired.
Neither Behar nor representatives of The View have issued an official response to the lawsuit so far. ABC, the network that airs the program, has also declined to comment publicly on the matter.
Legal experts note that defamation cases involving public figures face a high bar in U.S. courts, as plaintiffs must prove “actual malice” — that the statements were made with knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard for the truth. Despite this challenge, Musk has increasingly shown a willingness to pursue legal action to push back against what he views as unfair media coverage.
The case adds to ongoing debates about media accountability, free speech, and the boundaries between commentary and defamation on opinion-driven television shows.
ACT Global Media will continue to follow developments and provide updates as more details emerge from the courts.
