The incident unfolded early Thursday morning in Pinellas County, Florida, when deputies responded to a disturbance at a home and found that a couple had been arguing.
According to police reports from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the argument began over a backpack and escalated when the boyfriend retreated to a bedroom and locked the door to defuse the situation.
Shot Fired During Escalation
Investigators allege that the woman — identified as Antonieta Plasencia-Hernandez — began pounding on the locked door before grabbing her boyfriend’s handgun. She then fired a single shot through a TV stand and into the wall near where her boyfriend had been standing moments earlier.
The boyfriend was not struck by the bullet, but the shot’s trajectory raised serious concerns for investigators given how close he was to the impact zone.
Aftermath and Arrest
Plasencia-Hernandez reportedly left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival, but was later located and taken into custody. She now faces a serious charge of attempted first-degree murder.
Authorities say the boyfriend recorded portions of the confrontation on his cellphone, capturing audio of the argument and the sound of the gunshot before deputies were called.
The investigation remains ongoing as deputies continue to piece together exactly how the dispute escalated to gunfire.
