Reality TV star and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with stage 2 chronic kidney disease, saying the condition was discovered after she proactively began monitoring her health through regular blood tests.
Frankel, 55, shared the news in a candid TikTok video after returning from a doctor’s appointment, explaining that repeated tests showed her kidney function was consistently low. “Months ago, I decided I was going to be very proactive about blood tests,” the former Real Housewives of New York City star said.
She told followers that doctors are still assessing the underlying cause, noting it could stem from a near-fatal allergic reaction she suffered years ago, an autoimmune condition, or past infections. Frankel said she previously dealt with frequent urinary tract infections, which may also have contributed.
The Skinnygirl founder admitted lifestyle changes are now essential. She said her doctor emphasized hydration as critical, instructing her to drink up to 1.5 gallons of water a day. “Water is your medicine,” she recalled being told. Frankel also said she was advised to avoid common painkillers such as ibuprofen and Advil, along with certain supplements, including turmeric.
Frankel stressed that she shared the diagnosis not for sympathy, but as a warning to others. “Be mindful,” she urged. “Maybe this is something I’ll have to deal with forever, but it’s important to go get all your bloodwork done.”
Known for her unfiltered honesty online, Frankel has previously shared health scares with followers, including a recent facial bacterial infection she said she developed after traveling. She said speaking openly is part of encouraging people to take preventive health seriously.
