Global pop star Britney Spears was arrested in Ventura County late Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to authorities.
The 44-year-old singer was reportedly stopped by officers from the California Highway Patrol during a routine traffic stop around 9:30 p.m. Officials said officers suspected the singer of DUI after observing driving behavior that prompted them to pull her over.
Spears was taken into custody and booked at a local facility in Ventura County. Authorities later confirmed that she was released several hours later under California’s “cite and release” procedure, which allows individuals accused of certain non-violent offenses to be released with a promise to appear in court.
According to reports, Spears is scheduled to appear before a judge on May 4, 2026, where the case will proceed through the legal process. Law enforcement officials have not yet released additional details about the arrest, including whether a chemical test was conducted at the time of the stop.
The incident quickly became a trending topic on social media, with fans expressing both concern and support for the singer. Shortly after news of the arrest surfaced, Spears reportedly deactivated her Instagram account, adding further speculation and online discussion among followers.
Spears rose to international fame in the late 1990s with chart-topping hits such as “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again.” Over the decades, she has remained one of the most influential pop artists in modern music while also facing intense public scrutiny regarding her personal life.
Neither Spears nor her representatives have issued an official statement about the arrest as of now. Authorities say more details may emerge as the case moves forward in court.
