A person has been detained for questioning in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, officials confirmed Tuesday, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the individual was stopped during a traffic encounter south of Tucson and is currently being questioned by investigators. Authorities have not released the identity of the detainee and emphasized that no formal charges have been filed at this time.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are assisting in the case. A court-authorized search was also conducted at a property in Rio Rico believed to be linked to the individual detained. Officials have not disclosed what evidence, if any, was recovered during the search.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing earlier this month from her home in the Tucson area. Investigators previously released surveillance footage showing a masked individual near her residence around the time of her disappearance. Authorities have also confirmed that blood matching Guthrie’s DNA was found at the scene, intensifying concerns about her safety.
Her daughter, NBC “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has publicly appealed for information and expressed hope for her mother’s safe return. Family members continue to urge anyone with knowledge of the case to contact authorities.
Officials stress that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Further updates are expected as questioning continues and forensic analysis progresses.
