The breakup that stunned “Sex and the City” fans may not have been confined to the screen. Chris Noth has revealed that his longtime friendship with Sarah Jessica Parker has ended, saying her response to sexual assault allegations against him was “hurtful” and changed everything, marking what feels like a real-life echo of Carrie Bradshaw finally walking away from Mr. Big.
Appearing on the Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson podcast, Noth said Parker never contacted him privately before publicly supporting the women who accused him of sexual assault in 2021. Noth has repeatedly denied the allegations.
“The statement they put out was disappointing,” Noth said, describing it as “brand management” rather than personal loyalty. “You’ve known me for many years. You need to call me and hear my side of this. That didn’t happen.”
At the height of the controversy, Parker, along with “Sex and the City” co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, issued a joint statement expressing support for the accusers. Noth says that moment made it clear the friendship was over.
The fallout mirrored what fans saw on screen when Noth’s iconic character, Mr. Big, was abruptly killed off in the premiere of the sequel series And Just Like That… in 2021. While the show framed it as a creative decision, the timing fueled speculation that off-screen events had sealed Big’s fate.
“That was hurtful, and it really affected everything,” Noth said, adding that if the roles were reversed, he would have reached out to Parker before making any public statement.
The rift resurfaced publicly earlier this month when Noth appeared to take a swipe at Parker following her receipt of the Carol Burnett Award. Responding to a fan comment online, he wrote “Right,” when asked if his post was aimed at Parker, before later walking it back and calling the exchange sarcastic.
Parker has not publicly responded to Noth’s latest remarks.
Noth, 71, has acknowledged cheating on his wife, Tara Wilson, but continues to deny any criminal wrongdoing, insisting all encounters outside his marriage were consensual. “What it isn’t is a crime,” he said in a previous interview.
For fans, the revelation adds a somber new layer to one of television’s most famous romances. Years after Carrie Bradshaw finally closed the door on Mr. Big, it appears Sarah Jessica Parker has done the same in real life, turning a fictional breakup into a lasting Hollywood divide.
