A 29-year-old high school teacher in South Georgia has been arrested following allegations of inappropriate contact with a minor student, authorities said.
Danielle Weaver, of Leesburg, is charged with child molestation and improper sexual contact by an employee, agent, or foster parent, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
The case began on Feb. 3 when Lee County High School requested the Leesburg Police Department investigate claims of inappropriate behavior involving a teacher and a student under 18. The GBI was called in the following day to assist with the investigation.
Officials said investigators identified Weaver as the subject of the inquiry and confirmed the alleged victim is a student at Lee County High School.
Arrest warrants were obtained on Tuesday, and Weaver turned herself in to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. She was later released on bond, local media reported.
Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing. Once complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review and potential prosecution.
Leesburg is located in South Georgia, about 90 minutes north of Tallahassee, Florida.
