The CEO of artificial-intelligence company Anthropic is set to visit the White House for high-level talks with senior officials, marking a significant moment in the company’s ongoing dispute with the Trump administration after being labeled a supply-chain risk by the Pentagon earlier this year.
Dario Amodei is scheduled to meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles as both sides explore ways to address tensions surrounding Anthropic’s advanced AI systems and their potential use in national-security settings.
The dispute began after the Defense Department moved to cut ties with Anthropic when the company refused to remove safeguards limiting how its Claude AI models could be used, particularly for autonomous weapons and large-scale surveillance applications. The designation effectively barred the company from certain federal contracts and partnerships tied to defense work.
Despite that decision, the White House continues engaging with Anthropic because of the capabilities of its newest system, known as Mythos, which officials say could help identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities but also pose risks if misused.
The meeting is expected to focus on whether government agencies might gain limited access to the technology under controlled conditions and whether a broader agreement can be reached to ease tensions between the company and federal authorities.
Analysts say the talks highlight the growing importance of advanced AI systems in national security strategy, particularly as U.S. officials balance concerns about technological safeguards with competition against global rivals such as China.
While Anthropic remains in legal conflict with parts of the federal government over the blacklist designation, the White House discussions signal that negotiations are continuing behind the scenes as policymakers evaluate how to manage emerging risks tied to next-generation AI tools.
The outcome of the meeting could influence how the U.S. government works with private AI developers in future cybersecurity and defense initiatives.
