The Los Angeles Lakers opened their six-game road trip with an important 100–92 victory over the Houston Rockets, powered by a dominant performance from Luka Dončić, who scored a game-high 36 points.
Despite the standout display, Dončić offered a surprisingly modest assessment of his performance after the game.
“It was not bad. I think I could’ve done a lot better,” Dončić said during a postgame interview. “But all that matters is we got the win. We got to keep this rolling.”
Dončić came out firing early, scoring 16 points in the first quarter while shooting 7-of-10 from the field. His hot start set the tone for the Lakers, who controlled the pace in a matchup that carried significant playoff seeding implications in the Western Conference.
The Slovenian superstar has been on an impressive run recently. Just days earlier, he was named Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 37.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 11 assists, while also contributing 2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. His efficiency was equally strong, shooting nearly 47% from the field and over 42% from three-point range.
Dončić also reached a notable milestone in Lakers history, surpassing Kobe Bryant for the fifth-most 30-point triple-doubles in franchise history. He also became the 10th player in team history to record a 50-point double-double earlier this season.
While Dončić led the scoring against Houston, he emphasized the team’s collective effort, particularly on defense.
“It was great. I think we shared the ball great, especially in the last quarter,” he said. “They scored 92 points, which for this Houston team, to hold them to 92 is pretty awesome.”
The Lakers will remain in Houston for another matchup against the Rockets before traveling to face the Miami Heat as their road trip continues.
