PALM BEACH, Florida — An armed man was shot and killed by U.S. Secret Service agents after entering the restricted security perimeter surrounding former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach early Sunday, authorities confirmed.
Law enforcement officials said the incident unfolded during the early morning hours when the individual approached a secured entrance to the property. The area is continuously monitored due to its status as a protected site, and agents quickly confronted the suspect after he crossed into a restricted zone.
According to preliminary reports, officers issued repeated commands ordering the man to stop and drop his weapon. Investigators say the suspect instead raised the firearm toward officers, prompting Secret Service personnel and a supporting local deputy to open fire. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers or civilians were injured.
Officials confirmed that Donald Trump was not present at the residence at the time of the incident. Security protocols remained in place throughout the response, and the surrounding neighborhood was temporarily closed while authorities secured the area and conducted an initial sweep.
A joint investigation involving the Secret Service, FBI and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is now underway to determine the suspect’s identity, motive and movements prior to the breach. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the property and nearby streets, and forensic teams collected evidence at the scene for analysis.
Authorities also said they are examining whether the individual acted alone and if there were any prior threats or online activity connected to the incident. Investigators have urged members of the public to provide any information that could help establish a timeline leading up to the encounter.
Security experts note that protective perimeters around current and former U.S. presidents are enforced under strict federal guidelines. Agents are authorized to use lethal force when they believe an immediate threat exists to a protectee or a secured location.
The shooting comes amid continuing national concern over threats against political figures and sensitive sites. Officials emphasized that the response followed established protective procedures designed to prevent potential harm.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities say further details will be released once confirmed.
