A private jet carrying eight people crashed at Bangor International Airport in the US state of Maine, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The incident occurred during landing operations, prompting an immediate emergency response from airport authorities and local rescue teams.
FAA officials said the aircraft, a privately operated business jet, went off the runway after landing and sustained significant damage. Emergency crews were dispatched within minutes, and all passengers and crew members were evacuated from the aircraft. Authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of fatalities, though the extent of injuries, if any, has not yet been fully disclosed.
Bangor International Airport temporarily suspended some operations following the crash as safety crews secured the area and conducted initial assessments. Airport officials said commercial flights experienced limited disruptions, with runways reopening once the scene was cleared and safety checks were completed.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators will examine factors such as weather conditions, aircraft performance, pilot actions, and runway conditions at the time of the incident. Officials emphasized that it is too early to speculate on what led to the accident.
Witnesses at the airport reported seeing emergency vehicles rushing toward the runway shortly after the jet came to a stop. Images shared on social media showed the aircraft surrounded by fire crews, with visible damage to parts of the fuselage.
Bangor International Airport, which serves both civilian and military flights, has previously been used as an emergency diversion point due to its long runways and strategic location.
Further updates are expected as federal investigators continue their review and authorities release more information about the passengers, crew, and circumstances surrounding the crash.
